Designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee, known for his exquisite bridal wear collections, is currently hosting the seventh season of the show 'Band Baaja Bride'. Actor Deepika Padukone swears by his creations in her personal life while Bipasha Basu and Soha Ali Khan couldn't dream of their wedding without him. And this season, he's here to make each of the 13 contesting brides feel like a celebrity.

In a candid chat with Garima Arora, the designer tells more about the trending designs and colour palettes in wedding wear this season.

Why did you choose to be a part of the show?

The show gives brides and grooms an opportunity to express themselves on television. They will talk about their concerns, things they do in daily life and they can also reach out to many people who relate to their stories. The show is not just a makeover show but is also a platform where we talk about a lot of myths regarding Indian weddings.

How are you going to contribute to the show?

I think the biggest contribution that I bring to the show is by making it very democratic. Girls from different economic backgrounds will be able to become a Sabyasachi bride.

What designs are in vogue for bridal wear this season?

Bridal wear is becoming increasingly traditional and glamorous at the same time. Both necessarily don't have to go hand in hand. But you can tweak them and make them work together. Brides want something larger than life, new age and dramatic yet they want to stick to the traditional attire at the same time.

What colour palette and embellishments are going to rule?

Right now, a lot of work with silver and gold is in. A duo-tone of metal with a little dash of minakari is very important. Desirable fabrics would still be raw silk, tulle and velvet. My Firdaus collection, a celebration of beautiful zardozi and thread work, makes a grand appearance in the show.

What is the USP of your latest collection?

It's the fact that it is very traditional yet it can stand out in the non-contemporary genre.

What other collections are you currently working on?

I am working on a major show with Christian Louboutin that will be unveiled soon.

What are the do's and don'ts for wedding fashion this time?

I advise girls to wear one colour, head to toe. It makes you look taller and slimmer. Sometimes, western clothing with Indian jewellery works but sometimes, western jewellery with Indian clothing can turn out to be an epic fail. So, I advise them to coordinate jewellery with their outfit. Also, in times of social media, it is very important for the bride and groom to stay coordinated.

Your mantra for wedding fashion.

Keep it traditional.

What's next?

Season 8 of the show.
