Tanuj Jain moved to the city three years ago to accept a job offer. The respectable title of a chartered accountant may give one the idea that his life was blissful but to him, it felt like everything was going out of control.

"I thought Bengaluru would be the place for me. But with work stress, things going on at home and other things on my mind, it felt like everything was going wrong after I moved here," he says. This experience could have ruined his entire life here but he soon married his lady love Aditi and everything seemed to fall into place.

Hailing from Rajasthan, Tanuj met Aditi in Indore where the two were present to attend a family friend's wedding, out of much reluctance.

And that night changed their whole life. They started talking to each other on a regular basis and decided to continue a long-distance relationship as Aditi lived in Kolkata.

Now the married couple has been living in the city for the past two years. Aditi says, "Tanuj already knew a lot about the city. As for me, I came here as a married woman so the situation was different for me. I set up the house, cooked food that Tanuj was missing and found a job for myself." She presently works as an HR professional.

"Things didn't seem so difficult when it came to starting our life here. People here are very welcoming and helpful. I've always found help when needed and I think that's a great thing that one wouldn't find everywhere," says Aditi.

During the weekends, the couple likes to explore the city. Tanuj explains, "There are occasions when we don't plan anything on a Sunday and just laze around at home. But the city is such that we end up planning something most of the time. Long bike rides, night treks, pub hopping and walking in the rain are some of our favourite leisure activities."

Being foodies, they also enjoy exploring different restaurants in the city. "No matter how busy we are, a trip to 'Shiv Sagar' is a must at least twice a month. 'Big Pitcher', 'Toit', 'Punjabi Rasoi', 'Udupi Park' and 'Vidyarthi Bhavan' are the other frequently visited restaurants. Though we've had South Indian food back home, we've never had so many varieties in one place," adds Aditi.

Talking about his life back home, Tanuj says, "Rajasthan is a very easy-going place. I come from a small town where I used to hang around with my friends often, go on bike rides and lived a chilled- out life in general. During Deepavali, we would have to clean the large room in our house and decorate it. Unfortunately, we live in a one-bedroom apartment here. However, Aditi draws the rangoli outside the house, we decorate the house with lights and have our celebrations in our own way."

For Aditi, Kolkata is the place she calls home. "It's known that Durga Puja is celebrated on a grand scale there. Several cultures come together there, but having lived in Bengaluru, I realise that its pace of growth is very slow."

Despite the change in culture and lifestyle, the couple has made a home for themselves here. "I've loved every moment spent here. This city has given us so much, accepted us and given us the freedom to enjoy life. We wish it was closer to home but we are happy to be a part of this growing city," says Aditi.
