Inspired by iconic fashion designers, art, nature and her love for travel, designer Amee Patel creates some of the most graceful silhouettes and is one of those few designers who work to empower women; thus, helping them become more confident, fearless, unique and ultimately live their dreams. Amee is the founder and creative director of fashion clothing label 'MINT'.
Ask her how she got into designing and she remembers her childhood days when she used to design clothes for her dolls instead of playing with them and flipping through pages of fashion magazines instead of school textbooks. "Iwas obsessed with the fashion world from the very beginning so I couldn't even think of becoming anything else other than a designer," says Amee.
Her designs are rooted in Indian aesthetics but the cuts and fit reflect a contemporary expression making sure to suit today's lifestyle. Her latest lineup is majorly inspired from carvings and motifs of various places around India. There is a vintage touch in her latest collection depicted by the floral motifs created using the traditional hand embroidery of India. Amee has struck a perfect balance between ethnicity (classical and glamorous) and modernity. "The designs created are meant to adorn would-be brides and bridesmaids who look forward to keeping it simple yet look glamorous for the grand occasion. My motto is to create the most exquisitely designed outfits (both Indian and Indian fusion) that suit every woman. Something with which they are sure to steal the spotlight," says Amee.
She loves choosing fabrics that look grand and blend with a particular occasion that includes rich raw silk, elegant brocades, flowing nets and georgette. She has extensively used hues that compliment the present season and they are mainly bright hues dominating her colour palette. This is in order to bring out the liveliness in each outfit.
Amee points out that the market is mainly controlled by luxury brands and high street fashion, so there is always a constant competition to create edgy designs. "For an emerging designer, this comes out as a niche market wherein without established sales strategies and supportive platforms, the creations of these designers get ripped off by bigger brands having stronger teams and lower price points for the mass market." However, this has not discouraged her to create a space for herself in the competitive world of fashion. As a piece of advice for aspiring designers, she says, "I believe in the saying that the person we dress is a picture and we as designers are the framers. We just have to create the right frame."
