Arunava Poddar from Kolkata came to the city to pursue his biotechnology course. After pursuing his Masters, he realised that Bengaluru has become a big part of his life. It was like a dream come true when he found a good job here and he decided that 'namma Bengaluru' was where he wanted to be.
Working as an assistant manager with Accenture, he lives here with wife Sharmistha Das, who works as an assistant manager with JLL.
When Arunava came to Bengaluru, he knew that good education and job opportunities awaited him but what impressed him most was the amiable atmosphere here.
"People are in sync with each other. No one can ever feel out of place here," he says.
He recollects incidents where Bengalureans came to his rescue in troubled times. "I had met with an accident and I was badly hurt. It was in the middle of the night and there were not many people on the road. But whoever was around immediately rushed to help and made sure I was alright. After they understood that I was breathing right and able to sit, they wanted to drop me home too," he says.
Arunava recollects an incident in 2014, when he fell sick. "I wasn't able to take care of myself and I also had pets to look after. The lady who lived downstairs would keep checking on me. She cooked for me and helped me a lot. Sometimes you don't even have to ask for help here, the people are always ready to extend a helping hand," he says.
The cosmopolitan nature of the city is something the couple appreciates. "My team consists mostly of South Indians but they have never made me feel out of place. The best part is that they accept opinions and feedback in the best possible manner. Everyone here has the right attitude," he details.
Sharmistha, who worked in Hyderabad before she moved here, found it easy to adjust to the city.
"I would go out for interviews and had very few friends here then. I was comfortable in asking people for directions. But as days went by, I grew confident and was able to explore the city myself," she says.
The couple says one doesn't have to feel wary about safety issues.
Says Sharmistha, "Any part of the day or night, I never feel unsafe."
When they feel like taking a breaking from the city, they had out to Nagarhole and Bandipur.
"This is the best part about Bengaluru - one can easily have access to many beautiful spots outside the city," says Sharmistha.
The fact that the city is home to different cuisines from across the world is a bonus for the couple.
When the duo have some time to spare, they drive to 'Rasta Cafe' on Mysore Road or just chill at 'Lazeez' in Koramangala.
"For traditional Bengali food, we go to 'Bhojohori Manna' in Koramangala," she says. And when they are not visiting restaurants or going out of the city, they love to chill at home and spend time with their pets Scooby and Zombie.
"We also spend time at dog shelters and kennels like Precious Paws Foundation, which is where we found our Zombie. Spending time with our furry friends can be so relaxing. It is a definite stressbuster," he says.
The couple strongly believe that they have found their dream home in Bengaluru. "The city has helped us grow on a personal and professional level. We owe everything pleasant in our life to this city," says Sharmistha.
