Shristi Center of Performing Arts and Institute of Dance Therapy is organising the 'Shristi World Festival of Dance, Drama, Music and Yoga' till May 7.
The nine-day festival is showcasing around 225 dancers, musicians and backstage workers coming together from different parts of the country like Tamil Nadu, Orissa, West Bengal, Meghalaya, Karnataka and other states to present varied artforms like bharathanatyam, mohiniyattam, kuchipudi, kathak, dance dramas, percussion concerts and more.
One of the highlights of the festival was the mohiniyattam dance demonstration by Kanak Rele and a vibrant dance recital by her students.
'Mahan Buddha', a one-man show by A V Satyanarayana, also received great applause from the spectators. He played 12 important characters with finesse and ease — 'Shuddhodhana', 'Young Siddhartha', 'King Ashoka', King of Kalinga', 'Rajguru', 'Devadatta', 'Peacock', 'Court dancer', 'Enlightened Buddha', 'Evil elements', 'Snake' and 'Angulimala'.
Today, there will be a violin performance by Shreya Devanath from Chennai and a dance drama by Sanjay Shanthram and group at Ravindra Kalakshetra. On May 6, a drama will be staged and on May 7, 'Naada Vadya Vaibhava' will be presented by B K Chandramouli and group. There will be a national conference of Ayurveda, Naturopathy yoga and dance yoga on May 6 and 7 as well as folk dances of Tamil Nadu.
A V Satyanarayana also presented the Shristi National Achievement Award for Dance to Kanak Rele.
