Asking for a six-month vacation twice a year is becoming one of the most asked for wishes.

As this is not possible in the real world, many are making do with mini-vacations throughout the year. And the last one for this year is just around the corner. While many Bengalureans started their vacations last week, few others are getting ready to head out this weekend.

Soujanya Kadiyala and her husband Suresh are excited to go on their annual vacation. They usually plan to head out at this time of the year to visit family and extend that to explore nearby locations. This time, they are going en route Andhra Pradesh, Kolkata, Darjeeling and Jamshedpur. Soujanya says, "We have to go to my husband's hometown for some personal work and then we're headed to Jamshedpur. We will be staying there for a few days and visit places around. Suresh hasn't explored that area before."

She laughs that they will be travelling on New Year's eve. "I'm sure that everyone on the train will be awake and will celebrate in their own way. We hope to get down at a station on the way, get ourselves some cake and juice to celebrate. We will probably celebrate it in a big way after we get home the next day," she explains.

One of the reasons why many are travelling this weekend is to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Kunal Singh, a project manager, is heading out to Kerala as well. He says, "I visited the mountain side of Kerala last time I visited. This time,I wanted to explore the beachside and that's why I am headed towards Kannur. Even though many prefer to party this time of the year, I like to indulge at a peaceful location and just hangout with my close friends."

Kunal usually plans a trip similar to this every year. He spent the beginning of this year in a village in Gujarat. He says, "I usually go to places that are not crowded by tourists. I like exploring areas that are quieter. That's why the resort I stayed in was perfect."

However, finding a place of your choice is not always easy. For corporate trainer Sanjay Vaswani, he keeps a few things in mind when he plans a vacation.

He explains, "My dog Garlic goes where Igo, and finding a dog-friendly place is quite challenging. However, I am glad that there are a few places that are opening up and he can come along with me. That's how we planned a spontaneous trip to the Elephant Valley earlier this year. It was in the middle of nowhere, absolutely serene and just perfect for us."

This year, Sanjay is still planning on where to head out to. "I am debating between Sri Lanka, Shimla and Delhi. One of the reasons why I am heading out is to get away from the noise, especially the fireworks. It's also a great way to make peace
with nature and start the busy year off peacefully," he adds.
