With changing seasons, the trend of hair colouring has also gone through a wave of change. With winter here, warmer shades are in focus. Bengalureans and hair experts talk about how hues of brown and shades of caramel are the go-to colours for this season.

While colouring or highlighting is not something new, many still fear to try out a hue that is radically different from their hair colour. This is also the reason that reds and blues are struck off the list when looking for a 'safe' change, says Naina Gunjikar, a stylist with High Gloss, Lavelle Road.

"The top colours now are shades of caramel, honey, chocolate and toffee. People could be choosing subtle browns because it's the wedding season and they don't want others to judge them," she adds. Naina adds that for those who have not used any colour at all, this trend requires some styling to highlight those subtle colours.

Ambreen Vikhar, a makeup artiste, is sporting a 'blonde caramel' shade this season. "The colour is different from my original hair colour and creates a soft look which works for the season. It blends in smoothly and makes for a professional look compared to other pop-out colours," she says.

Ambreen adds that the colour also goes well with all ensembles one might sport. "Also, when the colour fades off, I want it to fade out well," she says.

Rajput, a young professional, got highlights in lighter shades of chocolate brown and blonde brown as she wanted her face to be highlighted more.

"I didn't want it to be strikingly different from my natural hair colour. I wanted the colour to accentuate my features. Earlier ,when my hair would be done up as a ponytail, my feather-cut hairstyle couldn't be clearly seen. The colour tone, while not being striking, adds the 'oomph factor' to a look," she vouches.

Youngsters like Everlyse Fernandes, a second-year degree student, opt to try the 'honeyglaze' look as they wanted to go for something which wasn't very prominent. "The colour does makes heads turn but doesn't leave them shocked. While my hair colour has garnered enough attention, it blends in well to suit any ensemble, be it Western or Indian," she adds.

With the advent of the winter season, Alice Li, a beautician, says that people are staying away from reds and blues and other snazzy colours. "Shades like 'honeydew' are in now. Shades like darker hues of browns are also doing well. There are people asking for Alia Bhatt's look in 'Dear Zindagi', where she is sporting a walnut brown shade,"
details Alice. She adds that subtle tones of browns, like chocolates, are the in-thing now.

Coloured hair helps to highlight one's best features too, points out T Suneetha, a beautician from Silken Hair & Skincare, Malleswaram. "Colours in different hues of browns or shades of caramel are trending now, because it is the festive part of the year. We've experimented with 3D styling, where two colours are blend to give such an effect.Reds and golds have taken a backseat, while warm colours and natural colours are popular now," she says.

Some have even gone for a mix of it all like Rashni Roy, a third-year degree student, who has streaks of dark brown on the front and blonde caramel near the nape.

"Warm colours like these are the talk of the town now. While some go for a simple shade, I wanted a blend of it because I wanted to be experimental while not becoming too experimental with the palette," says Rashni. She says she wanted to experiment with these as it were safe colours to work with.
