Taaha Shah made his debut with 'Luv Ka The End' and later appeared in movies like 'Gippi', 'Barkhaa' and 'Baar Baar Dekho'. He chats with Anila Kurian about his journey so far and his upcoming projects.
Tell us about yourself.
I was born in Abu Dhabi to a couple who are doctors. I moved to India for a while for my studies and then went back to Dubai to be with my parents. Both of them and my brother have been extremely supportive of all the decisions I have made, especially given the change of jobs so far. They have been there with me at every step and I couldn't have been happier.
When did you realise that you wanted to become an actor?
It was sometime after I decided to stop the import-export business. I remember being on the flight back home from Canada and I decided that I wanted to become a model. It was a voice inside calling out for the film industry and that's when I knew that I will do anything to make it to this industry.
Your upcoming projects...
My latest project is Anupam Kher's production 'Gunday Aur Gudiya'. While I have portrayed the spoilt kid and played the rich-high-school- boy kind of roles, this was a completely different genre for me. It took me about two months of training to learn the Bhojpuri dialects.
Ilove that I can learn new things in the movies that Iwork on and this has been a great learning process. The release date is yet to be confirmed.
Some of the actors that you want to work with in the future...
It's my dream to work with Amitabh Bachchan, Aamir Khan and Shah Rukh Khan. Among the female actors, I would love to work with Alia Bhatt and Priyanka Chopra.
If you could, what would you like to change about the film industry?
I wouldn't call this 'change' but I think it would be great if we would be more open-minded about censorship in films. It would also be great if there is more acceptance for outsiders in the industry.
Another passion of yours apart from acting...
Idon't believe in having a second passion. Acting is my life and that's what I set out to do. I will work for as long as I can because it makes me happy.
Your hidden talents.
I play the guitar and I'm also learning a new instrument that I am thrilled about. Idon't want to reveal which instrument it is until I get really good at it. Hopefully, I will in a month!
