It was in 2011 that Ambika Jain and Divya Kapur Bindra launched their label Dabiri which specialises in traditional Indian wear.

With the use of intricate detailing, interesting patterns and new techniques, the duo tries to add a contemporary twist to their creations which draw inspiration from the Indian heritage. In a chat with Metrolife, Jain shares more about the label, and its USP.

Tell us about your latest collection?

The 2016 collection is a reinterpretation of Dabiri's philosophy. Full of intricate thread work, with an essence of simplicity turned into luxury, the collection, inspired by the Mughal Era, is presented in bright colours for the festive season.

Tell us about your label?

Our creations focus on creating traditional embroidered ensembles on light fabrics. With elegant cuts and designs and embellished with beautiful needlework, our creations are reminiscent of the Indian heritage. The patterns, colour palettes and designs express rarity and exclusivity. We do mirror work, phulkaris, French knots, zardozi, intricate thread embroidery, gotta work on a regular basis.

What is the USP of your label?

Our USP is the customised handwork for our clients. The essence of Dabiri's creations lies in the innovative cuts and distinctive styles coupled with fine embroidery work.

How did you get into this field?
We both like to wear Indian attires and read about the Indian traditions since childhood and had key interests in exploring our goal!

How do you differentiate between style and fashion?
In my opinion style is personal and constant whereas fashion changes all the time.

What inspires you?
Beautiful brides and their enthusiasm keep on inspiring us and we keep on doing better work to make their special day amazing.

How can one survive in the competitive Indian fashion industry?

Believing in what you do and doing good quality work always pays off. There is no shortcut to it.

What are you working on next?

Currently, we are working on lots of multicolour embroidery for the festive season.
We are preferably choosing bright and vibrant colours
in our creations.
